Petition on zero emission rural mobility
Policy measures to bring zero emission air mobility to rural Canada
Canadian residents can submit petitions on environmental and sustainability issues to the Auditor General of Canada. We submitted a petition on May 13, 2024, asking the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry about their action plans to introduce AAM in rural Canada.
We received a lengthy formal response on Sep 22, 2024, from the Minister of Transport, which discussed their extensive role in the establishment of future regulatory requirements, as well as the certification of AAM aircraft and other associated technologies and infrastructure. However, they mentioned that Transport Canada does not have a significant role as it relates to investments and funding for this sector in Canada, including investments for rural and remote regions. A similar response was received from the Minister of Innovation.
These responses confirmed that in order to secure an equitable rural AAM, more work from the Canadian government is needed.
