Motion on citizen led drone regulations

Delivery drones and the importance of defending our skies

We liaised with one of Montreal's NDP riding associations (where our office is located) to submit a motion at NDP Convention about the need from Canadian government to support community led regulation to facilitate drone activities. The motion was not accepted by NDP members.

  • Whereas on-demand drone delivery of generally single-item consumer and household goods, predominantly hot and cold drinks, snacks, meals and, to a lesser extent, grocery and pharmacy products has started to happen around the world and here in Canada

  • Whereas drones are highly visible and audible and generate concerns around privacy, security, and disturbances to wildlife.

  • Whereas the sky itself, is both a public commons and a vital, living habitat,

  • Wherras Tech expansion for commerce and convenience into the vast public commons of the sky presents an urgent challenge for citizens of participatory cities.

  • Be it resolved that the NDP support creating a set of federal regulations around delivery drones operation especially in urban areas to protect citizens rights and sky itself with citizen consultation in the centre of the process.
