Demand forecasting for an air transit service in Vancouver
Can we establish affordable air transit by 2050 to serve Metro Vancouver residents that live far from the city center?
Struggle
Metro Vancouver's population is growing and sprawling. This growth is leading to peak hour congestion in many key routes including tunnels and bridges. Replacing these old infrastructure however would put a lot of financial strain on the tax payers.
Solution
Basse Clement, a senior Transportation Planning Engineer with McElhanney is leading the Grey Jay research on the potential of transit air shuttles (5 person eVTOL) to remove some cars from these infrastructures, and delay the need for such expensive upgrade. We have designed a new public transport system in place with several vertiports stationed around key transit hubs. We are using rigorous transportation demand forecasting tools to estimate the number of trips that will use such transit air shuttle system.
